Hello~ I will introduce the ‘Public transportation’ in Portland, Oregon. As you can see on the street, there are MAX, StreetCar and Bus.
First, I will explain Max. It just looks like subway in Korea. But, the difference is that MAX goes on the ground, while subway usually goes under the ground. In Oregon, there are 3 lines now (Red Line, Yellow Line, Blue Line), and soon Green Line will be opened.
Second, StreetCar is simmilar with MAX. But, StreeCar is smaller than MAX. Also, StreeCar goes just in downtown, while MAX goes another city.
Third, there are many many Bus. It’s same with Korea, so it can go everywhere. But if you go inside you can see the difference. It has rope on the window-side. If you want to stop at next station, you should pull the rope and then the red ‘STOP’ sign would appeal.
Maybe, you can be accustomed to transportation very easy. But, here is important difference between Korea and America. It is convenient for the handicapped to use MAX, StreetCar, or Bus in America. Actually, in Korea, the handicapped can’t take a bus. In case of Subway, there is facility for the handicapped, but it is very inconvenient. It means that Korean don’t usually think about weaker members of society. In Korea, we need this kind of system.

Q. How about the Fare??
A. I use free ticket for one month, so I don’t know exactly. If you want to know about it, visit ‘TriMet web site ; http://www.trimet.org’
Q. What is ‘TriMet’?
A. It is ‘Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon’. In short, it is a public agency that operates mass transit, like Bus system and the MAX Light Rail system in a region, in a region that spans most of the Portland, Oregon area.

Highlighted alphabet is nice to see. I believe your explanation would be good help to your friends in Korea who don’t know about Max, street car and Oregon bus.
