Once Upon A Time in Oregon

SJF

Once upon a time, there were a lot of volcanic eruption in this area. That eruptions made the almost mountains in Oregon, such as Mt.Hood - as you know, it is a sleeping volcano – and Mt.Saint Helen. Then there came the Ice age, which made the rivers of Oregon.

Many native american tribes lived in this area though the eruption evolved still. Their first settlemnet in Oregon was BC8000. Of course they had hard time to live on, but since 16C, Oregon was home to them. Many of them lived near river – actually today’s Columbia river – because they managed their life by fishing.

Then there came the European Explorers. The fastest one who came to Oregon was Spanish. They arrived in West coast while trying to make a journey from Philippines to their home. The Kuroshio current sent them to the Oregon. Most of them arrived in San francisco, California. But a few spanish came Oregon and traded their stuffs with the native americans. The famous James Cook explored the Oregon coast in 1778. From him, a lot of explorers visited Oreon.  We had Lewis and Clark in 1805, whose exploration was ended in 1806.

There is a game whose title is Oregon Trail. Now we can go on the age of the trail, in other words, pioneer era. As the explorers went back to their hometown and told people about Oregon’s reach resources. Especially for fur, a lot of people came and become familliar with Oregon. The first immigrants were missionaries, who wanted to change the religion of the natives into Christianity. After them, more and more people immigrated into Oregon. As the road was rocky mountain, many people died during their journey. The survivors became new settlers of Oregon, and the ancestor of modern Oregonians.

Now in Oregon, as same as other states of US, there are various kinds of people. Recently Hispanic immigration is soaring. They have some programs such as Education, Pollution, Indian Casino. From now on, how do they deal with the problems will be the history to the future Oregonians.
