What Do You Believe in?-By Jeongeun(Molly)

Do you have a religion?

Many people try to rely on holy gods when they get nervous. And a lot of people get religion influenced by their families. 45.71% of the citizens in Portland, Oregon are religious. 22.75 are Catholic, 12.56% are Protestant, 5.11% are Christian, 2.92%are Jewish, 1.55% are LDS, 0.6% affiliates with Islam, and 0.14% are eastern faith.The surprising fact was that, NOT EVERY American has a religion. But, not more than half of the Portland people have a religion. Portland has the fourth largest percentage of people identifying themselves as “non-religious”, at 21%

<Christianity>

I don’t have a religion but my host family is Christian. So they go to church every Sundays and Wednesdays. I follow my host family to church every Sunday.

Tom Downing

Q :  How did you get involved in Christianity?

A : I had relatives and friends who were Christians. So I started to go to church and read the bible as a kid.

Q :  How many times have you read the Bible?

A :  This is the 32nd time for me to read. I learn new things. I read the bible a lot because something new sticks in my mind.

Q : Can you briefly tell me the difference between Christian and Catholic churches?

A :  Catholic has much hierarchy and a bigger organization. Very structured in the leadership

Thank you for replying :)

<LDS(The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints)>

This religion is made from North America. They believe of the revival and rescue of Christ. The most characteristic thing is that they allow polygamy.

<Jews>

Christianity was influenced by the Jews. Because they follow the 10 rules, this religion is more like a “way of living” than a religion. The Jews were persecuted in the second world  war. A lot of people notice that most of the Jews are intelligent and rich. This is because they have their special stage of education. Firstly they focus on globalized education. They allow their students to build creativity and corporation. Secondly, they focus on logical thinking. Lastly, they wait and educate with persistance and consistance. Why don’t we all follow their education style?

Made by siddhattha Gotama in BC 5C, and many Asian people believe in Buddhism.

There is over 6 billion people in the world, and everyone’s myth and belief are different. The difference shouldn’t be ignored or snared. Everyone should be respected, because the most important thing in religon is an unfailing faith.

    People have been arguing about religion from the beginning. You had a very interesting topic to learn about. Your host father sounds like he is a faithful believer and I know you had interesting conversations with him.
