Traveling to Syria Without an Airplane.-JiHye/Sophia

Drinking Syrian Coffee, Turkish coffee
Drinking Syrian Coffee, Turkish coffee

I visited my host father’s sister’s house. She is Syrian. I heard that the pattern on the carpet was Syrian. There were three children. First child is Benjamin, who was very quite and gentle. He said next year he would go to high school. Second is Amir, which means ”prince”. Third is Amar, who is drinking coffee and has short hair. And the girl who has beautiful eyebrows is my sister Shelly. She is 9 now.  The children’s mother is Rowaida. My mother,me and she talked a lot about Syria, America, and Korea. There were many topics such as education, teenagers, marriage, freedom, politics. It made me think that American culture is not just for one country as I have heard.

And in their home, there was special television.Because they are Syrian, TV provided them with Syrian program. But that wasn’t the only TV channels. There were Egyptian, English, Turkish, China TV program. I guess that U.S. support various TV programs because it has lots of cultures. But unfortunately, there was no Korean TV. Though we had hard time trying to find out Korean program, there were only Japanese and China TV programs. That’s because few people know about Korea. It makes me feel we, Koreans, haven’t been known well.
