Hospital? Doctor’s office? What’s the difference?

In Korea, we call every place hospital that we visit to seek medical advice from doctors for disease. But in America, hospital is used only for surgery or emergency. We also can call it ‘Medical Center’. However, a place where people visit to see a doctor is called ‘Doctor’s office’. The doctors give prescriptions to the patients or if disease needs more detailed medical examination or surgery, they send the patient to the hospital. So, if we call 911, they carry the patient to the hospital directly. For example, pregnant women go to the doctor’s office to get medical advice once a month and they have to go to the hospital to deliver their baby.

Let’s learn about the list of hospitals in America!

There is a ranking from U.S News and Business Week. They are using the data from university, clinical reputation, whole environment and so on. Also, they are publishing book about it. And they announced ‘The Honor Roll’ for 14 hospitals. Here is the list.

In this list, we can’t see many famous Cancer clinics. For example, M.D. Anderson Cancer center is became famous because of the hospitalizing of Gun-Hee Lee the CEO of Samsung. This hospital couldn’t be on the ‘The Honor Roll’ because of the lack of clinical sector though Cancer part is one of the greatest in the world. From this, we can recognize the problem of this ranking. This is based on the number of A’s in examining , so maybe some hospitals may think that it would be more easier to get one more A making a bathroom that is filled with flowers rather than keeping up their ability of surgery.
So, when you are seeking this kind of these information be sure to analyze this exactly. The hospital on the top is not the best one, and you should find one which get the A on the part you need.
Also, these rankings don’t include the safety, contribution to the community, or the rate of success of surgery. This has to be improved.
In addition, this is the list of ‘the medical graduate school’.

This is not common in Korea, and they don’t want to make the list of hospitals. It will make patients to go specific hospital. Though, there is a ranking in silence.
Most universities have medical centers. For example, the severance from Yeon-sei university, hospital from Seoul univeristy. And also hospital from company is famous for their stable fund like hospitals from Samsaung with Sungkyunkwan university.

Let’s compare medical insurance systems!

The medical insurance system in America is being critcized. Many Americans are being suffered by poor medical insurance system and many people can’t get the advantage of it. Contrary, Korea’s system is well known for it’s effectiveness. The president Obama announced public pledge about it, and he said that America has to copy Korea’s. By comparing systems in Korea and America, we can notice the problems.

In Korea, it is operated on the public purpose. Every Korean is supposed to be in the insurance system. It’s the big differnece. In America, it is operated personally, so being in the system is on their own decision. But, to enter the insurance it costs a lot of money. Many poor people don’t enter it thinking there is only small possible that they can be injured and get the insurance money.  Although the insurance system in Korea is well-organized but at first it was hard for government to burden all the money. Also, the gap between wealth and poverty is so wide in America , it is hard for them to force every citizen to charge some money to enter the insurance. I hope they seek the efficient solution to solve the problem in the American insurance system.
